It is a yellowish fat essential for life. However, when increases its amount in the blood becomes a serious anomaly. Although produced in the liver, about twenty percent atreinta come from what we eat. It is therefore important to monitor food nutritions.
In addition to a diet high in saturated fat, Cholesterol can be caused by liver cirrhosis, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorder, kidney failure or by a hereditary condition.
To understand the concept and mechanism of cholesterol, one must know that there are two major fats in the blood:
* Cholesterol
* Triglycerides
These fats are broken and bind to certain proteins and together they travel through the bloodstream in the form of lipoproteins that are classified as:
* VLDL – Very low density lipoproteins.
* LDL low – density lipoproteins.
* HDL – High-density lipoprotein
HDL cholesterol is considered good to have a great ability to debug the arteries. The more cholesterol is present in such blood, the better.
LDL cholesterol is considered bad, because it accumulates in artery walls, causing blockage of these and restriction of blood circulation. Therefore, the lower the levels of this cholesterol, it is better
A high LDL cholesterol can cause disease and serious and grave situations like these:
* Angina pectoris
* Myocardial infarction
* Stroke
* Abdominal pain or acute pancreatitis without
* Hepatosplenomegaly (enlarged liver and spleen)
