Green tea contains powerful anti-inflammatory compound, called epigallocatechin-3-gallate, or EGCG, that inhibits the production of several molecules that contribute to inflammation and joint damage in people with rheumatoid arthritis, the study found.

EGCG also suppresses inflammatory products in the connective tissue of people with rheumatoid arthritis, the researchers reported.

Scientists isolated certain cells, called “fibroblasts” in the whole tissue and then incubated in the culture medium with the compound of green tea.

It stimulates the fibroblasts with an immune system protein that plays an important role in the destruction caused by the common feature of rheumatoid arthritis, so the researchers tested the compound in green tea may block the activity of two molecules that also participate actively in the erosion of the bones in the joints of people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

Furthermore, halting the production of prostaglandin E2, a hormone similar to the substance contributes to joint inflammation.

The results provide a solid foundation for future testing of green tea compounds in humans with rheumatoid arthritis, says Salah Uddin Ahmed researcher with the research of the Division of Rheumatology at the Health System UM.

Thanks to its soothing properties of lavender is now a key ingredient in face creams and balms, baby bath oils for its ability to induce sleep, sunburn and acne treatment creams, you can even buy roll-format on to combat migraines.

Farmers in Britain are facing a great demand for the plant, and that lavender has long been considered a panacea in the world of herbal medicine and today is in a boom.

The flower stems produce the essential oil that can be used topically or diffused in a bathroom and an oil burner.

The most popular way to use essential oil and keeps people in the kit for use on bites, stings and burns and to relieve pain and drops in the bath to promote sleep.

Lavender has antiseptic properties, says Dee Atkinson, spokesman for the National Institute of Medicinal Herbalists, who explains that the First World War was not only used lavender in the wounds of soldiers but also to disinfect hospital walls.

Thanks to its alleged anti-inflammatory properties herbalists suggest that lavender is a great ally in the fight against acne and other skin lesions, which are made for creams or gels that fight inflammation and infection, “says Atkinson.

Five most common uses of Lavender:

To soothe sunburn: add a few drops of essential oil with water in a spray bottle and mist the skin reddens.

To reduce mosquito bites: insect bites and stings, cuts, scrapes and abrasions.

To fight dandruff: put a few drops in water as a hair rinse.

For the relaxation baths, place a handful of the flower in a bundle of nylon in the bath, this bath of lavender is used since Roman times, from which it originates its name, which in Latin is “clean” ” wash “.

For the insomnia and stomach, making dried flower tea to settle upset stomach and induce sleep.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

Contains a substance that has properties similar to those of cortisol, a glucocorticoid.

Besides acting as an anti-inflammatory licorice works as an expectorant which is beneficial in cases of asthma. You can use a licorice supplement containing glycyrrhizin. It should eat between 200 and 800 milligrams of the drug daily. Also get licorice tablets that contain no glycyrrhizin. However, these are not helpful for asthma.

Precautions Use of licorice for six weeks and then discontinue use for two weeks. Eat foods high in potassium such as bananas or citrus juice during the time you use licorice. This is not possible to use a potassium supplement.

Do not use licorice if you have glaucoma or hypertension. Nor should it be used by those suffering from breast cancer or other estrogen-sensitive cancer, endometriosis or illness (or rather changes as it currently is not regarded as a disease) fibrocystic breast.

Grape seed extract and Pycnogenol

Both contain certain types of flavonoids (pigment that gives color to many plants) that help prevent asthma attacks caused by allergens in the air. The flavonoids in Pycnogenol are obtained from the French maritime pine bark. Both grape seed extract and Pycnogenol are achieved in the form of capsules or tablets.

Garlic and onions

Inhibits certain substances that promote inflammation. In tests on guinea pigs found that onion extract reduced its asthmatic response to inhaled allergens. Onions contain a flavonoid called quercetin which helps relax the bronchial tubes. It also inhibits the proliferation of cells that produce histamine, a substance that promotes inflammation and swelling. The onion also contains other substances that have a isotiocinatos calls antiasthmatic effect.

Quercetin supplements are achieved as a tablet. However, some of these are not well absorbed. Some researchers recommend taking along with bromelain quercetin with bromelain, a mixture of enzymes derived from pineapple that can help better absorption.

Precautions – quercetin increases the time that many drugs remain in the body. In some cases this can have positive effects but may increase the risk of side effects of these drugs. For this reason we recommend taking supplements of quercetin together with some drugs such as cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune) and nifedipine (Adalat, Procardia). Nor should it be combined with antibiotics belonging to the class of quinolones as (ciprofloxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin), norfloxacin (Noroxin), ofloxacin (Floxin) and trovafloxacin (Trovan) as it may interfere with their action.

In test tube studies, have been shown to cause chromosomal mutations quercetin, so, in theory, supplements with large amounts of quercetin could favor the occurrence of birth defects, this has not been adequately studied in humans or animals .

Tylophora asthmatica

This is a plant that has been used in India to treat asthma. It is believed that the leaves contain substances asthmatica Tylophora antihistaminic and antispasmodic. One study found that a group of patients 200 milligrams of leaves of Tylophora asthmatica twice daily for a period of six days reduced their symptoms and respiratory function improved during treatment and for a period of up to two weeks after it has ended . The asthmatica Tylophora is available as capsules. A suggested dose is 200 to 400 milligrams twice a day.
